May. 22019

FREEPORT –Bruce Warren, owner of The Village Woodworker, in Oxford, will be recognized for the Maine Veteran Owned Small Business of the year when the U.S. Small Business Administration holds its annual awards ceremony May 15 at the Hilton Garden Inn.

The event follows National Small Business Week, which includes a number of small business workshops and events from May 5 through 11.
“We are always impressed and energized by the amazing entrepreneurial spirit of small business owners across the state and the organizations that assist them,” said Amy Bassett, SBA district director for Maine. “Our awards ceremony gives the public the opportunity to hear directly from these successful entrepreneurs about how they were able to build their business and contribute to the small business economy of Maine” added Bassett.
The winners of the 2019 Small Business Awards were selected based on a number of criteria, including the growth of their business in terms of sales and employees, innovativeness of their products or services, strategies developed to overcome challenges, and contributions to community programs. Nominees must also have used services associated with the U.S. Small Business Administration, whether it was a direct connection such as an SBA-backed loan, or indirect such as receiving support from one of the SBA Resource Partners: SCORE, the Small Business Development Centers, or the Women’s Business Centers.
