GARDINER — Galumpha, combining stunning acrobatics, visual effects, physical comedy and choreography, will perform Saturday, March 23, and Chris Smither — songwriter, guitarist and bluesman — will perform Saturday, March 29, at Johnson Hall Performing Arts Center, 280 Water St.
The performances are both at 7:30 p.m.
Galumpha’s three performers create a sensory feast of images ranging from the ridiculous to the sublime, drawn together into a seamless whole, consistently bringing audiences to their feet. Formed in 2002 by Andy Horowitz and Greg O’Brien, Galumpha delivers a fast-paced, athletic brand of movement, distinctive for its ingenuity.
Smither’s new record, “Call Me Lucky,” is his first set of brand new originals in six years, featuring Smither trademark songs that offer commentary on the human condition with a wink of an eye and pulls from deep in the soul. Honing a synthesis of folk and blues for 50 years, Smither is truly an American original.
