BRUNSWICK — “Mowed Down at Manassas” is the title of Clay Feeter’s upcoming presentation at the Joshua L. Chamberlain Civil War Roundtable 7 p.m. Thursday, March 14, at the Curtis Memorial library’a Morrell Room, 23 Pleasant St.
A Civil War historian and ancestral researcher, he will give the riveting account of the final moments of life of his second cousin, Colonel Fletcher Webster, son of the noted statesman Daniel Webster, who was a member of the 12th Massachusetts Volunteers. This group attempted to fight back Confederate Gen. James Longstreet’s overwhelming assault against the Union during the Second Battle of Bull Run in August 1862.
In addition to having traced his ancestry to four other notable Civil War figures, Feeter has ancestral roots from Daniel Webster, Ethan Allen and Nathan Hale of Revolutionary War fame and Mayflower connections as well. His passion is to help people unearth the rich stories of Civil War ancestors and relatives through his business venture, “Packed House History Talks.” The lecture is free and open to the public.
