Franklin County Chamber’s food basket program fed 120 families this year

Dec. 162018

FARMINGTON — The Franklin County Chamber of Commerce was able to provide 120 holiday food boxes to those in need this year, as well as donate to local food pantries, as part of the Gerry Wiles Food Basket program.

The food boxes included a full holiday meal with all the trimmings and dessert, and were prepared by four Chamber member grocers — Food City, Hannaford, Tranten’s Market and Walmart.
They were distributed at the chamber office to families who had completed applications. The chamber will also make donations to all nine Franklin County food pantries to help them meet the season’s demand. The money donated to the Care and Share Food Pantry in Farmington and the Wilton Area Food Pantry will be doubled through a matching grant.
The donations help tthe food pantries make their money go farther by buying food at the Good Shepard Food Bank, where every dollar spent is multiplied to provide for families in need.
