OAKLAND — Volunteers from Poland Spring, through its Calling 207 program, helped with a reading garden project at the town’s Atwood Elementary School on Oct. 17.
Poland Spring spent the summer soliciting nominations for community programs that needed funding and volunteer support to complete.
The rules were that a project had to be something that could be completed in one day, it had to be done by Oct. 30 and it couldn’t cost more than $5,000.
Atwood Elementary School’s reading garden was one of the projects chosen. Volunteers from Poland Spring, students and teachers at Atwood, and landscapers from Holts Yard Improvements, were on site to create a reading garden consisting of plants, flowers, bushes, a fence and benches.
