BRUNSWICK — Phil Schlegel is the guest speaker at the next Joshua L. Chamberlain Civil War Roundtable lecture, at 7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 8, at Curtis Memorial Library.
Schlegel’s topic, “From Soldier to Sailor,” focuses on a ship carpenter from Wiscasset who enlisted in the Union Army early in the war, but ended up serving the Union cause as a sailor with the Western Gunboat Fleet on the Mississippi River.
The presentation will touch on a Maine veteran’s transition from Army to Navy, the ensuing Mississippi River campaign and belated recognition of Civil War veterans.
The talk is in the Morrell Room at the library, which is at 23 Pleasant St.
