Latest book by Maine mystery writer Milliken published

BELGRADE — The latest mystery novel by local author Maureen Milliken, “Bad News Travels Fast,” — the third in Milliken’s Bernie O’Dea mystery series — is available to readers.
Set in a fictional Franklin County town, the series explores the dark underside of small-town Maine life, featuring Bernadette “Bernie” O’Dea, owner and editor of a weekly newspaper.

Maine mystery writer Paul Doiron, author of “Stay Hidden,” the most recent in the Mike Bowditch series, calls Milliken’s’ writing “masterful storytelling.”

In “Bad News Travels Fast,” Appalachian Trail thru-hiker Lydia Manzo becomes lost in the woods, then is found dead, setting off a chain of events upsetting the fragile peace of Redimere, Maine. While state investigators are sure Lydia killed herself, some in town are equally sure she was murdered. Maine’s High Peaks Region can be a dark wilderness, but it suddenly seems very crowded as as another too-hot summer of deceit and death consumes Redimere.
Other books in the series, published by S&H Publishing, are “Cold Hard News” (2015) and “No News is Bad News” (2016).
Milliken’s books can be found in many area libraries.
She plans appearances later this year and in 2019 at libraries and other events, including the Belgrade Holiday Craft Fair with other members of the Maine Crime Writers blogging group — Kate Flora, Vaughn Hardacker, Sandy Neily and Jen Blood. The craft fair is 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 1, at the Belgrade Community Center for All Seasons.
