BRUNSWICK — The next monthly meeting of the Pejepscot Genealogical Society will feature PGS president and webmaster of the Maine Genealogical Society, Brian Bouchard, who will present “Murder at Misery Stream; Maine’s Most Famous Forgotten Murder Trial.”
The meeting will be held 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 9, at Curtis Memorial Library, 23 Pleasant St.
The talk is the follow-up to last year’s program about Bouchard’s great-great grandfather, Alexander Theriault. Last year’s discussion centered on how Bouchard was able to find the parents of Theriault by piecing together a number of different resources over nearly 10 years of research.
In “Murder at Misery Stream,” Bouchard will discuss the various resources and methods of research he employed to rediscover his family’s lost story of the 1901 murder near Moosehead Lake, and the subsequent trial of his great-great grandfather. One of Maine’s most sensational murder trials at the time, it has been almost entirely forgotten, until now. The public is invited to attend these meetings, learning why and how the story was lost – even just two generations removed in the family of the man accused of the crime — and how a decade of research can help answer the one question most often asked, “Do you think he did it?”
There will be a brief social period with refreshments before and after the speaker. A business meeting will follow.
