NORWAY — The small neighborhood book exchanges known as Little Free Libraries are quickly becoming a global phenomenon and can be found in 80 countries worldwide.
A new Little Free Library on the property of the Norway Town Office on Beal St. — between Lynn and Danforth streets — has joined the movement to share books, bring people together and create communities of readers.
The Friends of Norway Memorial Library, who funded the project, hosted a ribbon-cutting to celebrate the new library Thursday, Aug.30.
The “take-one, leave one” library provides more opportunities for people to connect with books in the community. It can be used by a family stopping to read a picture book while they are on a walk, a visitor to Norway with a book to swap, or someone in the neighborhood just looking for a good book to read.
Little Free Libraries are small boxes stocked with books for readers of all ages.
People take a book they read and return for someone else to enjoy, take a book and replace it with one they own but have already read, or take one and return it to another Little Free Library.
The Library of Congress, the National Book Foundation, and the American Library Association have honored the Little Free Library organization, which has helped share more than 10 million books.
