Input from Maine farmers sought for state agriculture policy

AUGUSTA — Several state organizations are seeking the input of farmers to create an Agriculture Policy Platform that will create farmer profitability and retention.
This is an effort to help steer programs accordingly and inform the state’s next governor and Legislature about what farms need for agriculture to thrive.

With the intention of capturing input from as many farmers as possible, a series of activities is being developed for agriculture sector participants to weigh in on policy ideas. These include several town-meeting style gatherings and webinars. Organizers are looking for input from farmers on the best times to hold these meetings.

UMaine Cooperative Extension, Maine Farm Bureau, Maine Sustainable Agriculture Society, MOFGA, Maine Farmland Trust, CEI, Maine Food Strategy, Good Shepherd Food Bank and Cultivating Community.
