OAKLAND — Mac Smith of Stockton Springs will be the guest author 6 p.m. Wednesday July 25, at the Oakland Public Library, 18 Church St.
His book,”Mainers on the Titanic,” traces the stories of passengers with ties to Maine who were on that fateful voyage.
Many of them were wealthy summer visitors to Mount Desert Island, but many other residents of the state were aboard as well.
This book reveals the agonizing day-to-day wait for news of what really happened to their loved ones and tells the stories of the Maine passengers from boarding to sinking, rescue and arrival back in the country, and for those who did not survive, their final coming ashore in Halifax, Nova Scotia.
Smith is a Navy veteran of the First Gulf War and former news reporter for the Bar Harbor Times. For more information about the program, call 207-465-7533.
