TOPSHAM — The Orion Performing Arts Center Create-A-Play Theater/Art Day Camp for middle school-age students will be held July 16 to 20.
The camp is open to 20 students, who develop characters, write a play together, create all the scenery and perform the play.
Half of each day consists of theater activities — character development, scene-writing, acting skills, projecting voice, theater games and more. The other half of the day is dedicated to creating visual arts such as set design/ building, props, costumes, self-portraits, painting and other art activities.
The theater director is Kathleen Nation and art director is Christine Gates. Both have wide experience in the performing and visual arts fields, and have worked frequently with middle-school students.
Camp is 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., with the play performed at 3 p.m. Friday, July 20, followed by a cast and family party. The camp takes place at the Orion Performing Arts Center, Mt. Ararat Middle School.
Camp is open to students finishing grades five through eight in June. Some scholarships are available to eligible children.
