MONMOUTH — DFD Russell Medical Centers recently announced the return of John Yindra, M.D., to the Monmouth location four days a week as physician.
Yindra previously served as staff physician and medical director of DFD and has decided to come out of retirement to return to the medical center.
Yindra most recently was chief medical officer at Community Health Options, where he helped provide health care insurance for Maine residents who otherwise would not have been able to afford it. He recently retired from that position and returned to DFD.
“The work with Community Health Options was very rewarding, but I recently turned 65 and wanted to slow down a bit,” said Yindra. “DFD is so well run, and I have a long history with my patients, so it is a real joy for me to be able to return to work here.”
Yindra also served as medical director of Central and Western Maine Physician Hospital Organization and associate director of Maine Health Physician Hospital Organization. In those roles, he helped primary care practices to become patient-centered medical homes and specialty practices to improve coordination of care. He also worked in geriatrics at Maine Medical Center. Throughout his career he also served in an assortment of medical director and physician roles at DFD for more than 25 years, establishing strong ties with patients.
Yindra earned his bachelor’s degree in biology from the University of Delaware and his medical degree from Jefferson Medical College. He is board-certified in family medicine with added certification in geriatric medicine.
