St. John’s students hold mock trial to learn about judicial process

BRUNSWICK — As part of the school curriculum, seventh grade students at St. John’s Catholic School took part in a mock trial recently at the parish hall.
Students had worked for six weeks learning about the judicial process.

“Each student has taken on an important role in the ‘courtroom.’ The intent with the mock trials is to help educate students, parents, staff, and other friends of SJCS as to how the process works,” explained teacher Pamela Sullivan. “Upon demonstration, students will have met their goal in helping to bring awareness to local citizens as to how the judicial system works in our country.”
The most impressive piece of this mock trial was that it was completely written by the students, and the jury’s final decision wasn’t rehearsed but carefully considered as in a real-life court situation.
