Author to speak of thorny world of competitive gardening May 12

HIRAM — Aurelia Scott, Portland author of “Otherwise Normal People: Inside the Thorny World of Competitive Rose Gardening,” will share some of the stories and bizarre tips of the gardeners who garden competitively at a meeting of the Hiram Historical Society at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, May 12.

The talk will be at Soldiers Memorial Library, 85 Main St. (Route 117).
Scott won the Garden Writers Association Gold Award for Best Book Writing for “Otherwise Normal People.”
She has written stories for the New York Times, MPBN, Down East magazine, Fine Gardening, Garden Design, Yankee magazine and more.
She is a volunteer gardener and a “hero” of Portland Trails. Scott lives in Portland with her husband.
