BELGRADE — The Friends of the Belgrade Public Library will host author Jennifer McGee, from to to 4 p.m. Sunday, May 6, at the Belgrade Public Library 124 Depot Road. Light refreshments will be available.
McGee is the author of “Nine Minutes and Counting.”
The story focuses on Lizzie and her family, who travel every year to their favorite spot, Beaver Brook Campground. In the year of the story telling, Lizzie is almost 12, entering middle school, and has been temporarily charged with babysitting her two-year-old brother. She becomes distracted by the allure of the campground, and her little brother wanders into the woods, resulting in a tragic series of events.
All of this happens in the time frame of nine minutes.
McGee has been a Maine educator for the past 32 years, is the principal of Atwood Primary School in Oakland and writes in her spare time.
This year, McGee was named the Maine Elementary School Principal of the Year and the NAESP National Distinguished Principal of the Year. A lifelong lover of children, writing and education, publishing “Nine Minutes and Counting” seemed the perfect way to celebrate. McGee will talk about her book and answer questions; there will be books available to purchase, which she will sign.
