PITTSTON — The Pittston Historical and Literary Society has a few questions for you.
Did your family live in Pittston before 1918? Did you have friends whose families lived here then? With that in mind, the Pittston Historical and Literary Society is planning an exhibit for the Pittston Fair in July that will be a “snapshot” of the town during the last months of World War I.
The society would like to show fairgoers what businesses were in town, who had electricity, who enlisted and went to war and who stayed home and tended the farms. To present that, the society will need photos, letters, diaries, postcards, small household articles, business cards or advertisements and any other bit of “ephemera” that will help tell the story.
If you have clothing from that time period, society members would love to see it. Would you be willing to lend or let the society scan significant items that would make the exhibit meaningful? If you know of someone who has stories about that time, they would be willing to come listen and perhaps, with permission, record those stories for others to hear.
“This is a story of our town 100 years ago. This is our story,” noted secretary Kris Weeks Oliveri.
