GARDINER — The Aug. 4 Artwalk Gardiner will offer more to the visitors attending the event than usual. In addition to artists’ studios and businesses being open and celebrating the local culture of the riverfront community, five new large scale wheat-paste installations on the backs of selected buildings will be added, supported by funding from the Gardiner Creativity Fund.
The works will be in addition to the eight wheat-paste installations that are already part of the landscape of the back of the historic downtown buildings.
Artwork by Rebecca Goodale and Karen Adrienne, Barbra Whitten, Christine Olson, Robert Saunders, and Kerstin Gilg, will be installed just before the August Artwalk Gardiner. The work will remain through the summer and be removed in the fall.
“The project is a response to the positive community reaction to two wheat-paste installations we facilitated last year.” said Karen Adrienne, director of Artdogs Studios.” Artdogs was able to work with artists Peter Precourt and Kerstin Gilg on a large installation of E.A. Robinson and Scott Minzy on a stylized sturgeon. People who use the downtown really liked the additions so we decided to do it again and make it part of the summer exhibit offerings for 2017. It is also a way to bring art into the broader community and celebrate Gardiner.”
The Aug. 4 Artwalk Gardiner begins at 5:30 p.m. and continues to 8 p.m. Visitors to the event can pick up a “key” to guide them in their self-guided tour of the public installations at Circling the Square Fine Art Press or Artdogs Studios on Main Street.
