WINTHROP – The Winthrop Maine Historical Society has two big fundraisers planned for May, its annual plant sale and a local knowledge trivia night.
The next business meeting will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, May 4, at the Winthrop History and Heritage Center, 107 Main St. A Zoom option is also available by calling the center or by becoming a member. Members get the link with the emailed monthly Pondtown Crier newsletter.
All WMHS meetings are open to the public.
The third annual plant sale will be from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday, May 13, at the center. The sale will be held rain or shine.
The WMHS will fill its parking lot with plants, and members and volunteers will be available to help with plant selection and carrying plants to your car.
Plant donations are needed and welcome. All donations must come sale ready in a clean pot, plastic bag or container. All non-invasive plants will be accepted. No invasive varieties accepted. Each plant must be marked with: name of plant, color of the blossom or leaves, exposure (i.e. full sun or shade).
Dropoff is 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, May 12, in the WMHS parking lot. Let WMHS know if you plan to donate, contacting plant sale coordinator Natalie Weise at 203-788-9095.
All plant donations and sale proceeds support the WMHS and its collections.
The “Got History? Winthrop and Maine Trivia Fun-Raiser” will be at 6 p.m. Friday, May 19, at the center.
The trivia night will be run by Androscoggin Trivia Company.
Participants must be in teams of four, and trivia will include information about Maine and Winthrop history. The WMHS Facebook page in the comping weeks will provide clues.
The event is $25 for individuals, or $90 for a team of four. There will also be raffle prizes, a pizza dinner and a silent auction, which goes online May 4.
