Lewiston Public Library hosts food preservation workshop May 8

LEWISTON – Lewiston Public Library will host a Hands-On Food Preservation Workshop from 4 to 6:30 p.m. Monday, May 8, in Callahan Hall at the library, 200 Lisbon St.
The workshop will feature pickled spring vegetables, such as asparagus, and is free and open to the public.
The workshop will be taught by UMaine Extension volunteers and staff, and will teach the basic steps for canning. Participants will receive a food preservation packet and learn recommended methods for preserving vegetables, the latest and safest recipes and equipment, and how to check for properly sealed jars. Participants must bring a potholder. All other supplies with be provided.
