LEWISTON – Katherine Gagnon, a registered nurse in oncology at Central Maine Medical Center, has been presented with the DAISY Award.
The DAISY award is an international recognition program that rewards and celebrates the extraordinary compassionate, skillful care nurses give daily.
Gagnon was nominated by the wife of a cancer patient who said, “Katherine allowed me to ask hard questions regarding my husband’s stage four cancer. She sat with me and allowed me to cry and vent in a safe place. She also gave me guidance and suggestions regarding getting help with the kids. Words cannot express. Thank you.”
A second nomination came from a patient being cared for at CMMC. The patient described how Gagnon advocated for her, looked out for her emotional and physical well-being, and involved her family in decisions every step of the way. “Katherine is a wonderful nurse who focuses on the whole person. CMMC is lucky to have her.”
The DAISY Award was created to give patients and their families a way to express their gratitude to nurses who provide exceptional care. “It’s wonderful to see Katherine receive this well-deserved recognition,” said Kris Chaisson, chief nursing officer, CMH. “At Central Maine Healthcare, we are committed to delivering exceptional patient experience, and the everyday efforts of nurses like Katherine help all of us achieve that.”
