Senior College at Bridgton spring session registration underway

BRIDGTON – Senior College at Bridgton is offering seven classes, beginning in April, which will be held in person at Webb’s Tavern at the Magic Lantern, 9 Depot St.
The program is for anyone 50 or older in the Lake Region, with a $15 membership fee for the year, which covers spring, fall and winter sessions.
Classes are 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. Monday through Wednesday from April 24 through May 16. Proof of COVID 19 vaccination is required. Masks are optional. With membership, single day classes are $10, two-session classes are $15 and four-session classes are $20.

Thoreau’s Walden, April 24, May 1. Discussion of Thoreau’s relevance to current environmental concerns by reading and discussing “Walden.” Ken Gibbs, instructor.
Tips and Techniques for Joyful Gardening. April 25, May 2. Information about planning a garden, ensuring soil is optimum, cleaning the garden in the spring, identifying and controlling weeds without pesticides, composting, gardening to support wildlife, deer-resistant plants, what to do about groundhogs and other critters, bird feeder and birdbath care. History of Bridgton Area. April 25, May 4, 10, 17. Four topics: Bridgton in the 18th Century; Settlers, Proprietors and Land Speculators; The Timber Industry in Early Bridgton; Stage Roads and Steamships; The Ridge Neighborhood, from Libraries to Opera Stars. Michael Davis, instructor.
Basics of Interior Design. May 8. History and purpose of everyday features of a house, explore design concepts that can be applied in your home, and gain a better understanding of how to design for a happy, comfortable and safe home. Julie Whelchel, instructor.
History of the B&SR Railroad and the B&H Railway. May 9. Focus on the economic impact the railroad had on the town and surrounding area. Adam Cook, instructor.
Staying Active and Safe as You Age. May 15. Muscle strength, cardiorespiratory endurance, flexibility and balance will be outlined and demonstrated, as well as home modifications to improve safety. Nancy Donovan, instructor.
Discovery Through Aviation. May 16. Mary Build, author of “Finding Myself in Aviation,” discusses how aviation helped her find freedom after an abusive childhood
