SOUTH PARIS – Oxford County Soil and Water Conservation district will host a discussion on bat conservation from 4 to 5 p.m. Wednesday, March 15, at Oxford County Cooperative Extension, 9 Olson Road.
Once misunderstood and feared, bats are now recognized for the services they provide and the important role they play in our eco-systems. The discussion will include native bats, how disease and habitat alteration have affected them and steps you can take to make your property bat friendly. Each attendee will also bring home detailed instructions to build their own bat house.
The discussion will include Natural Resources Conservation Service state biologist Jeremy Markuson and Hannah Mullally, of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, who will give a presentation about the Partners for Fish & Wildlife Program, which helps private landowners restore important habitat on their lands.
This event is free, but participants must register at oxfordcountyswcd.org/workshops by Tuesday, March 14.
