BRIDGTON – The Bridgton Easy Riders Snowmobile Club recently took its first club trip of the year, to Millinocket.
Unlike southern Maine, the conditions in Millinocket were perfect. Temperature varied between about 19 degrees to 37, with lots of brilliant sunshine. The trails, as usual, were excellent. It is impossible to adequately describe how beautiful snow-covered Mount Katahdin is against the blue sky. Photos taken on the trip can’t do it justice.
The 30 members who took the trip trailered up to the Baxter Park Inn for a five-night stay, which included a meet and greet pizza party the first night. Breakfast was provided by the inn, including orange juice, coffee, hot chocolate, cold and warm cereals, toast, bagels, muffins, fruit and yogurt.
Club members also supported the East Branch Sno Rovers SC spaghetti supper, complete with garlic bread, coffee, tea, soft drinks and desert. This was followed by entertainment and dance music by their local 15-piece band. Two BER members, John Clement and Dwayne Hendrix, sang and played guitar. The riding included many lunch destinations that range from 6 to 60 miles from the start, including Shin Pond Village, Wildwood Trailside Camps, Matagamon Wilderness, and Kokadjo. This year a new close-by stop was added, Knife Edge Brewing, which in addition to its own brews features wood-fired pizza, sandwiches and soft drinks.
The next club meeting is 7 p.m. March 10 at the Bridgton Community Center. There will not be a pot luck supper.
