AUGUSTA – The Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife is seeking the public’s help to complete the five-year Maine Bird Atlas project.
Any bird observed in Maine by March 15 will help. Observers don’t have to be a birding expert to provide valuable observations. Every bird sighting helps, even the birds in your backyard or at your feeder, IF&W officials said.
The information will help the state’s future bird conservation efforts.
To share sightings:
1. Go outside or watch for birds in your yard from the comfort of your home.
2. Take note of: species, what day and time (time estimate is OK), where the bird is, and how many individuals of a species you see at any one time.
3. Create an account at ebird.org/me.
4. Log in and click “Submit.” Follow the prompts to enter observations.
