KLT hosts President’s Day snowshoe outing

Jan. 202023

WINTHROP – Kennebec Land Trust is hosting a Presidents’ Day snowshoe outing, and also is reminding those who want to get outdoors during the winter that many of its properties have winter trail access.
The snowshoe outing will be 9:30 to 10:45 a.m. Monday, Feb. 20, at Hutchinson Pond Conservation Area in Manchester. The family friendly hike is about 1.5 miles, and will explore forests and fields leading to Hutchinson Pond. Registration is required, since parking is limited. Contact Marie at mring@tklt.org or 207-377-2848.
Winter trail access – plowed parking lots – for snowshoeing and cross-country skiing is available at several KLT sites (if hiking during a snowstorm, don’t park in plow turnaround areas):
• Curtis Homestead Conservation Area, Leeds
• Ezra Smith Wildlife Conservation Area, Mount Vernon
• Hutchinson Pond Conservation Area, Manchester
• Surry Hill Conservation Area, Fayette
KLT conservation easements with plowed winter access (KLT holds the developments rights, but the property is under separate ownership):
• Mount Pisgah Community Conservation Area, Winthrop
• Torsey Pond Nature Preserve, Readfield
• Effie L. Berry Conservation Area, Hallowell (includes access to Howard Hill in Augusta)
Call the KLT office at 207-377-2848 for updates or to report any blowdowns on the trails.
