Name sought for new Rangeley scenic byway turnout

RANGELEY – The community can weigh in on what to name a new scenic turnout on Route 17, north of Height of Land.
The turnout, on Rangeley Lakes National Scenic Byway, underwent construction improvement, including new pavement and improved ditching in 2022. Throughout the construction, a surplus of boulders was relocated to an area north of Height of Land, creating the newest scenic turnout on the RLNSB. The urnout overlooks Mooselookmeguntic Lake, spotlighting Toothaker Island.
Amanda Laliberte, Rangeley Lakes Heritage Trust program director said a community seruve is available to so area residents can weigh in. “We’re looking for your input,” Lalibertie said.
Created and managed by Rangeley Lakes Heritage Trust, the survey will be open until 11:59 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 14. All submissions are anonymous. The suggestions from the survey will be compiled, and the Rangeley Region Wayfinding will move toward a consensus on a name. The final selection will be released in a press release by the end of January.
