Auburn seeking ‘perfect tree’ for Festival Plaza

AUBURN — The city is seeking a healthy local tree to use at Festival Plaza this holiday season. The ideal tree will be located in Auburn — an evergreen such as spruce or fir, at least 25 feet tall and relatively “accessible” (no close power lines or other obstructions). The winning tree will be removed and transported by the Auburn Public Works Department at no cost to the property owner.
Once in place, the tree will be decorated with care by the team at the Public Works Dept. It will be illuminated Saturday, Dec. 3 at the city’s annual holiday parade, officially kicking off the holiday season in beautiful downtown Auburn.
Tree donors will be publicly recognized and invited to the lighting ceremony. The tree will remain at Festival Plaza throughout the holiday season for the enjoyment of all who visit downtown Auburn.
Residents and property owners who wish to donate a tree and help bring holiday cheer to downtown Auburn are encouraged to submit their tree for consideration. The nomination form can be found at www.auburnmaine.gov. Entries are due by Oct. 28.
