NORWAY — The Main Street Gallery will feature Sherry Grant as Artist of the Month through September.
Grant taught school for many years and, after retiring in 2016, decided she would try to develop her artistic style, as she comes from a musical and artistic family that goes back for generations. These influences were deeply woven into her teaching and now as an artist.
Grant is drawn to bold colors that reflect in her paintings of nature and creatures she’s met in her childhood and beyond. Her animals are often painted with a bit of whimsy and strong elements of color brought out in acrylic, colored pencil or watercolor mediums. With an eye to detail, she likes to bring the eyes of her creations into focus to try to capture the wild spirit within them. With each painting, she strives to give each creature the respect of its individuality and divineness that they inherently possess.
She spends her free time with family and friends who enjoy hiking, biking, and horseback riding. She lives in Norway, with her husband, dog and two cats.
The Main Street Gallery, 426 Main St., is open 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Friday, and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday. For more information, for more information find the gallery on Facebook or write to westernmaineartgroup@gmail.com.
