NORWAY – A new display of Asian toys and teapots, and Pick Your Own Book Club are just two of the happenings at Norway Memorial Library.
Visitors to the library can view “Toys and Teapots from China, Japan, and South Korea,” featuring the collection of Sherri Otterson. Otterson lived in Okinawa, Japan, for 21 years, and in South Korea for seven. In that time, she accumulated a collection of Kokeshi dolls and Chinese, Japanese, and Korean teapots. Kokeshi dolls are simple wooden Japanese dolls with no arms or legs that have been crafted for more than 150 years as a toy for children.
This display may be viewed whenever the library is open through April and May, which is Asian American Pacific Islander Heritage Month.
Readers may join Pick Your Own Book Club monthly through June. Each month a genre of fiction or nonfiction is featured. Participants pick a book from that month’s genre to read and talk about at the meeting. This is a way to explore new genres or to discover authors and books in a favorite genre.
All discussions are 3 to 4 p.m. the fourth Thursday of the month. Participants may attend in-person or via Zoom. Visit norwaymemoriallibrary.org for each month’s zoom link to attend remotely.
The genres are:
April 27 – Humor
May 25 – Mystery/Horror
June 22 – Science Fiction/Fantasy/Adventure
Hours at Norway Memorial Library, 258 Main St., are 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday; noon to 5 p.m. Thursday; 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday. For information, visit norwaymemoriallibrary.org.
