NORWAY – Some 105 individual and team athletes took part in the 2022 Lakeside Norway Triathlon on July 9 at Lake Pennesseewassee Park. It was the event’s 15th year, and the first since 2019 that it had run at full capacity.
Athletes from Maine and beyond raised money for Western Foothills Land Trust by competing. The USAT-sanctioned sprint triathlon includes a .75K lake swim, 18.5K bike leg and a 5K run. The event drew both experienced and novice triathletes from nine states – 38 women and 67 men competed for the gold, silver, and bronze cowbell awards in individual and team categories. Competitors ranged in age from 20 to 72.
Finishing in first place for the individual men’s class was Connor Ford of Boulder, Colo., at 1:03:06, a Norway Tri course record. Delaney Bucker of Portland was the top women’s class finisher, with a time of 1:17:43.
Milo’s Rippers was the top men’s team, with a time of 1:08:45; SAM’S Club was the top women’s team, at 1:22:50. Pete’s Wedding-A Team was the top co-ed team, at 1:23:37.
Helping make sure the event went smoothly were race director Christine Curry Hemmings, swim captain Mark White, bike captain John Snell, run captain Abby Bennett and safety captain Deb Partridge, as well as Norway police stationed at crossroads, Pace ambulances on hand, lifeguards on the swim course, and many volunteers.
