AUGUSTA – The 2022 Maine Ironman 70.3 Maine triathlon will be held Sunday, July 31, along the Kennebec River in Maine’s capital city.
Athletes will begin their 70.3-mile journey with a 1.2-mile downriver swim in the Kennebec River, beginning at Front Street, downtown, at 6 a.m. Sunday, with a rolling start.
The last racers are expected to cross the finish line around 3 p.m. In between, besides the river swim, they will traverse 56 miles of rolling hills on a bike and run 13.1 miles along the Kennebec River Rail Trail.
A welcome ceremony will be held at 6 p.m. Friday, July 29, at Mill Park, with food and fireworks.
On Saturday, Ironman Village will be open at the YMCA athletic fields on Union Street, across from Capitol Park. The fields are also the transition area between the legs of the triathlon.
The awards ceremony will be held at 3:30 p.m. at the UMCA athletic fields.
The 2022 Ironman 70.3 Maine is a dual qualifier, offering qualifying slots to both Intermountain Healthcare Ironman 70.3 World Championship presented by Utah Sports Commission in St. George, Utah, on Oct. 28 and 29, and slots to 2023 VinFast Ironman 70.3 World Championship in Lahti, Finland.
