Oakfest to be held July 22-24 in Oakland

OAKLAND – The sixth annual Oakfest will be held July 22 through 24 in downtown Oakland.
The weekend begins at 5 p.m. Friday, July 22, with the Oakfest Downtown Wine and Dine with live music, food trucks, a beer tent, wine and DACH tasting, street dancing, a children’s scavenger hunt and tours of historic Memorial Hall.
Saturday, July 23 is ShineOn Oakland Day at Williams Elementary School, 55 Pleasant St. Events begin at 10 a.m. with a 75-booth open air market featuring Maine artisans and crafters, food vendors, dozens of children’s activities, a car show and live music.
Attendees can also register on Facebook for a paint party, 1-3 p.m., at a cost of $25.
Sunday begins with an 8 a.m. Kids Fun Run, followed by the 5th Annual Oakfest Paddle, Pedal & Pound Triathlon at the boat landing. The event is for all levels of athletes and begins with a 2.5-mile kayak or canoe paddle on Messalonskee Lake, followed by a 12-mile bike ride along Messalonskee stream; the final leg is a 5k (3.1-mile0 run through town, looping through wooded trails and finishing back at the boat landing. Registration in the town website, and cost is $50 for individuals, $80 for a two-person team and $120 for a three-person team. The Kids Fun Run is free.
The ShineOnCass Foundation will collect school snack donations for local school food pantries as part of the ShineOnCass Snack Project. Bring individually packaged nonperishable snack donations to help fill a school bus and stock the shelves this fall for students in need. Donations will be accepted all weekend.
