PHILLIPS – Civil War re-enactments, including a “train raid,” will be held beginning at 11 a.m. and continuing every hour until 3 p.m. Saturday, July 30, in conjunction with the season’s opening of Sandy River Railroad.
The re-enactment is free to watch, and open to the public. More than 50 re-enactors will portray Union and Confederate troops as well as 19th century civilians.
The re-enactment focuses on the railroad, with troops on the train before the battle. Once the train reaches the “battle field” the troops disembark and the battle begins.
Spectators can access the field by foot from Amble Street or, for a small fee, ride the train with the troops. The railroad station is at 128 Bridge St. in Phillips, with runs at 11 a.m., noon, 1 p.m., 2 p.m. and 3 p.m. All passengers embark and disembark from the station.
