Chickadee Quilters Annual Show is July 9, 10

BRIDGTON – The Chickadee Quilters’ Annual Show will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, July 9 and 10, at Stevens Brook Elementary School, 14 Frances Bell Drive.
This year’s theme is Birds and Blooms. This 41st annual summer event is an exhibition of locally made, hand and machine-sewn quilts and other forms of fiber arts.
This will be the return of the show after a two-year layoff. Time at home during Covid has produced many beautiful quilts and other hand-made items that the association is looking forward to displaying. The group even participated in creating mystery quilts while enjoying reading chapters of a quilter’s mystery novel. Although members used the same quilt instructions, the results are wildly different.
There will be more than 100 quilts and many other fiber art pieces, including felted silk and wool scarves, red work ornaments, wool and bead pins, quilted tote bags and more on display. There will also be a Linus Quilt display. The Linus Project is an organization that provides blankets for critically ill and traumatized children. This year, the group made more than 40 Linus quilts.
Raffle tickets for the Birds and Blooms 2023 Raffle Quilt will also be sold. The quilt is a “potholder” style, with a blend of applique and pieced blocks that are individually hand quilted and bound. All the bound blocks are assembled around the appliqued center block. The 2022 raffle quilt will also be on display, with a last chance to buy tickets before the drawing at the close of the show.
In addition to the quilt exhibition, the show offers a chance to shop with our local quilt store vendors, browse the Chickadee’s table for handmade items and the quilters’ yard sale tables will return with lots of bargains to be found. The silent auction table also returns with 12 themed baskets.
Lunch will be for sale, including chicken salad sandwiches, garden and fruit salads, desserts, and beverages.
Donations at the door of $5 and other proceeds from the show help fund the Bridgton Community Center activities including fuel assistance and community dinners, local food pantries, comfort quilts for local families experiencing great loss or hardship and Christmas for Kids programs in the Bridgton area.
