RANGELEY – The Rangeley Public Library has programs for people of all ages coming up in July.
At 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 5, Mad Science will be at the library with a one-hour whirlwind of experiments inspired by some of the ever-growing fields of STEAM. Participants will go on an exploratory mission of some of the coolest – and hottest – innovations of the world’s roboticists, rocket scientists, and more. Children of all ages are welcome, but those pre-school age and younger should be accompanied by an adult.
Author Tom Roth, “A Sporting Year in Maine,” will speak at 6 p.m. Wednesday, July 6. Roth is a 25-year regional columnist for The Maine Sportsman, New England’s largest outdoor publication, writing about his adventures month by month, detailing what the great state of Maine has to offer, complete with how-to, some where-to, and humorous events that happened along the way.
The present and future of Orgonon will be the topic at 6 p.m. Wednesday, July 13. Wilhelm Reich bought the old Jesse Ross farm on Dodge Pond Road in 1942. Mary Boyd Higgins ran the Wilhelm Reich Infant Trust Fund, managing Orgonon and overseeing publication of Reich’s books from 1959 until her death in 2019. Since 2021, Reich’s granddaughter, Renata Reich Moise, a nurse-midwife in Hancock County, has been the trust’s president, and will discuss recent developments and plans for the future. Reich’s son, Peter, who attended Rangeley Elementary School from 1950 to 1954, will share stories of Orgonon and Rangeley in the early 1950s.
