River of fog in Buckfield

Jun. 132022

The crest of North Hill Road in Buckfield, facing Mount Blue, isseen at8:20 p.m. Saturday, June 11, about five minutes before Sunset. Owen Galway, of Buckfield, captured the image — titled “River of Fog on the Mountain.” It comprises what photographers call “the golden hour.” According to sciencedaily.com, “The colors of the sunset result from a phenomenon called scattering. Molecules and small particles in the atmosphere change the direction of light rays, causing them to scatter, affecting the color of light coming from the sky.” In general, the last hour before sunset and the first hour after sunrise are prized by photographers.
