Roads around Little Wilson Pond get annual cleanup

TURNER — A small but dedicated group of property owners on Little Wilson Pond spend several hours May 7 cleaning up litter and garbage along Little Wilson Pond and Wilson Hill roads.
Unlike last year, there were no tires removed during the annual Little Wilson Pond Improvement Association Litter Clean-up Day; however, there were the usual nip bottles, empty cigarette packs and takeout food containers, noted Denise McCourt.
Board member Jo Thibodeau helped immensely before the cleanup even started by removing an old dishwasher dumped along her property.
“It always amazes us that people will just open up their windows and throw out their garbage,” says Janet White, president of the association. “We had a lot less litter than we did last year, but that was our first clean up in a long time, and with a group of great people, we were finished in an hour.”
About eight members of the association helped clean up the garbage around the pond. The garbage went to the Turner Transfer Station and, whenever possible, the bottles and cans were recycled.
