NORWAY – The seventh annual Norway Family Fishing Festival will be held from 8 to 11 a.m., Saturday, June 4, at Butters Park. This is the return of the festival, which hasn’t been held since 2019.
The festival is a family-oriented event designed to teach children 15 and younger how to fish – it is not a competition. Children must be accompanied by an adult in order to participate. The event is both catch-and-release or catch-and-take-home-to-eat. Children must do the fishing – no adult fishing is allowed in the area until June 15.
Registration is at the event. Those without a fishing pole will be lent one for the day. Those who are 15 or under who bring their own fishing pole may enter a raffle to win the Stuart B. Cummings Lifetime Fishing Award. Volunteers will be on site to help teach children how to bait their hook and fish.
The travel lane on Water Street from Pikes Hill to Main Street will to through traffic from 7:30 to 11:30 a.m. for the event. The Water Street parking lot will be available for festival participants.
The event is a collaborative effort of the Norway Parks & Recreation Department, Mollyockett Trout Unlimited, Norway-Paris Fish & Game Association, Lake Thompson Fish & Game and Healthy Oxford Hills.
