LEWISTON — The Lewiston and Auburn public libraries are hosting programs for all ages inspired by this year’s community read book, “Front Desk,” by Kelly Yang.
Copies of the book are available to check out at both libraries and at public elementary school libraries. Ebooks and audiobooks are also available on the statewide CloudLibrary app for those with library cards.
Participants are encouraged to post selfies reading the book on social media accounts with #TheLewistonRead and #TheAuburnRead between until May 25.
An interview with author Yang by Lewiston Children’s Librarian Sara Turner is also available the Lewiston Public Library’s YouTube page. The interview covers moments from the book that happened to Yang in real life, what it was like to immigrate to America as a child and her thoughts on book banning. She also gives advice to kids struggling with discrimination and bullying and to all of aspiring young writers.
A jasmine tea party and book discussion will be held at 4 p.m. Tuesday, May 10, at Lewiston Public Library, 200 Lisbon St. All ages are welcome, and encouraged to talk about their favorite moments in “Front Desk” while enjoying decaf Jasmine tea.
At 11 a.m. Saturday, May 14, an “Art of Letter Writing,” interactive event is open to all. Particpants will learn how to write a letter to a person or an organization – a family member, a friend, or for a cause. Everyone will receive one free postage stamp to mail their letter.
