AUGUSTA — The Sportsman’s Alliance of Maine and the Maine Sportsman Magazine hosted the 40th annual State of Maine Sportsman Show at the Augusta Civic Center from April 1-3.
Sportsmen and sportswomen and their families wandered around the Civic Center floor, which was packed with more than 100 booths, while in smaller rooms seminars or demonstrations took place.
The booths featured vendors that included sporting camps, outdoor equipment for hunters, anglers, boaters, snowmobilers, and other outdoor enthusiasts and more.
Operation Reboot, of Turner, started by a Maine veteran Dan Waite and his wife, Nicole, had a table where military veterans could learn how to use the outdoor experience to help them get their lives back toward normal. The food category was not left out either, with tips and samples of pickling and beef jerky. There were also some activities for youngsters with a very popular chance to pet a calm, well-trained, four-month-old black Lab.
Dozens of presenters demonstrated their expertise in trapping, dog training, paddling, leatherworking, natural artwork, and other things related to the Maine outdoor experience. The Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife, Maine Audubon, Maine Women Hunters, University of Maine Tick Labs were just a few of the presenters during the weekend.
