WATERVILLE — The 40th Battle of Maine Martial Arts Championships took place at Champions Fitness Club March 26, the first time it’s been held in person since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Proceeds from the event, which was held at Champions Fitness Club, Elm Plaza, helped support the Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals in Maine.
About 340 martial artists and 1,000 spectators from all over New England attended. Competitors and spectators alike were happy to be back to in-person competition.
The competition kicked off at 8:30 a.m. with the full contact padded sword fighting competitions.
Opening ceremonies took place at 10:15 a.m., with the national anthem sung by Rebecca Pushard.
After the national anthem, hundreds of prizes were thrown into the crowd for the kids to catch. The tournament included a special demonstration by world champions and then forms, weapons forms and fighting competitions took place throughout the day.
