Augusta mayor pitches in for Meals on Wheels

HALLOWELL – Augusta Mayor Mark O’Brien on March 24 joined Spectrum Generations staff and volunteers to package meals for homebound elderly and disabled adults in Kennebec County as part of the March for Meals weeklong celebration.
The Spectrum Generations Meals on Wheels program provides delicious, nutritionally balanced hot meals for homebound elderly and disabled adults who have no one to prepare a meal for them. Meals on Wheels are prepared, packaged and delivered to participants’ front doors by Spectrum Generations’ dedicated volunteers and staff. In addition to providing food security, these meal deliveries are also an opportunity for safety checks and friendly human interaction for otherwise isolated Mainers. March for Meals is a weeklong event designed to bring awareness to the program, and to highlight food security issues in Maine.
“I was pleased to participate in Spectrum Generation’s Meals on Wheels program and to help bring attention to its important work of preparing and distributing healthy meals to the homebound and sometimes isolated members of the community,” O’Brien said.
