NORWAY — The Table, at 160 Main St., continues to be busy, offering a weekly free clothing giveaway, free Saturday breakfast, recovery groups and activities with the HOGs (Healthy Outdoor Group).
Weekly Free Breakfast: In-person free Saturday breakfasts returned in April, with an option to pick up a meal, as well. The breakfasts are at 9 a.m. Saturday, Norway Grange, 15 Whitman St. The Table welcomes volunteer teams who would like to take a Saturday and serve breakfast. The in-person breakfasts have been a great social need for many in the area.
HOGs (Healthy Outdoor Group) continues to hike weekly. Follow The Table’s Facebook page for schedules. The group is for anyone interested in enjoying the Maine outdoors and sharing it with others. HOGs is accepting kayak donations, or money that can be used to buy kayaks for use by the group. In 2021 the HOGs went on 25 hikes and paddled 19 different bodies of water in the area. All abilities are welcome for hikes and paddles. Changes in the schedule will be posted on The Table’s Facebook page.
April tentative HOGs hiking schedule is:
Sunday, April 10, 12:30 p.m., Monument Hill, Leeds. Meet at the OHCHS parking lot at 12:30 p.m. to caravan and car pool. The hike trail is a one-mile moderate loop.
Saturday, April 16, 12:30 p.m., Porcupine Hill, Otisfield. Meet at the Bolsters Mills Road trailhead at 12:30p.m. Easy to moderate short family-friendly hike with some surprises.
Saturday, April 23, 12:30 p.m. Mount Tire’m, Plummer Hill Road, Waterford. Meet at the trailhead, a short distance past the Congregational Church. One and a quarter mile round trip, moderate to advanced.
Free Clothing: The Table offers free clothing 1 to 5 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday, as well as 10 a.m. to noon that last Saturday of the month. There is a variety of clothing available for both genders and many sizes. Staff is on hand to help customers find specific clothing to aid in an efficient flow through the building. The Table accepts donations of lightly used clothing and footwear from 1 to 5 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday. There is a great need for children’s lightly used or new clothing and shoes. Money to buy new socks and underwear is also appreciated.
The Table is seeking additional free space to house its clothing ministry. Any person or business that may have an empty in-town building and is looking to give back to the community may contact The Table.
Recovery Services: The Table offers space to the Larry Labonte Recovery Center from 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Thursday for Narcan training and distribution. It also offers space for area recovery groups, including Narcotics Anonymous, 7 p.m. Tuesday; Alcoholics Anonymous, 7 p.m. Wednesday; Al-Anon 6:30 p.m. Thursday.
The Table is an organization made up of people from the Bolsters Mills United Methodist Church, Norway Grange and community members.
