Maine AARP state director named to Climate Council

PORTLAND — AARP Maine State Director Noël Bonam has been appointed to serve on the Maine Climate Council in order to represent the interests of Maine’s older population, according to AARP.
Bonam will join elected officials, climate scientists and industry leaders on the council. Bonam brings a strong record of leadership on diversity, equity and inclusion across Maine, a key value of the council, said Hannah Pingree, co-chair.
“As the state director of AARP Maine, Noël brings an important perspective to the council. From increasing weatherization and energy efficiency, to improving transportation systems, to investing in resilience to protect Maine for future generations, action on climate change improves the lives of Maine people, especially aging Mainers,” Pingree said. “Noël’s deep experience and record of leadership on diversity and equity in Maine is also invaluable as the Climate Council works to ensure our climate actions and programs are accessible, and provide benefits to our most vulnerable communities and people.”
Bonam said he is honored to be ‘entrusted with this responsibility of paramount importance.”
“Climate action is a need for the people of Maine, especially for our older and low-income communities that experience the inequalities of climate change most harshly,” he said. “I’m committed to working with my fellow council members to make climate action equitable and accessible to all Mainers.”
