AUGUSTA – Author Kim Sedlock will hold a free 17-week writing workshop via Zoom, beginning March 7, hosted by Lithgow Public Library.
The workshops will take place at 1;30 p.m. on Monday through June 27. The workshop uses character and story techniques from the theater and applies them to short story writing and other forms of creative fiction writing.
Sedlock will cover special topics for the first part of the meetings, with the second half a workshop for student’ pieces, in which she will offer encouraging and thorough critiques and suggestions. Critique will also be open to the entire group so that all may respond to each other’s work.
Topics will include how to create real character; flow, obstacles, binaries, the rhythm and melody of writing; what really makes a good story; writing dialogue; submissions; reading your work; and how to direct your own one-act plays. Sedlock will also invite guest writers who will give different perspectives on your work and teach writing topics.
Registration is required at 207-626-2415, ask for the reference desk to sign up. Participants may join at any session and attendance at earlier meetings is not required.
Sedlock has a bachelor of arts degree in Creative Writing from Beloit College, where she studied under Pulitzer nominee Clint McCown. She was first prize winner of their Lois and Willard Mackey Prize for her short stories, a contest that was judged by National Book Award Winner Bob Shacochis. She is the sole playwright, stage director and occasional performer for Pass the Pine Cones Theater Company, where she teaches writing workshops,
