St. Dom students spread cheer to senior centers

LEWISTON — Students at St. Dominic Academy, pre-K through eighth grade, spread some cheer in honor of the Feast Day of St. Nicholas on Dec. 6, by making Christmas ornaments for senior adults.
“As part of our St. Nicholas Day festivities, the students made Christmas ornaments for the St. Martin de Porres Residence and St. Catherine of Siena Residence, here in Lewiston,” said Sister Francesca Silver.
Both the Auburn and Lewiston campuses got into the spirit of the holy day, wearing red and even donning Santa hats to celebrate.
Among many other titles, St. Nicholas is the patron of children and known for his extraordinary character, making him so beloved and revered as a protector and helper of those in need. The Santa Claus story originated with St. Nicholas, who in third century, inherited some money when his parents died, and gave it to a poor family, secretly, at night, so they could care for their three daughters.
