Lewiston Public Library closed Nov. 17-19 for upgrades

LEWISTON — The Lewiston Public Library will be closed to the public Wednesday, Nov. 17, through Friday, Nov. 19, for technical upgrades. The library will reopen, with its regular hours, on Saturday, Nov. 20.
During the closure, the library will continue its radio frequency identification conversion work. The library invested in RFID technology for its 160,000-item collection, which will allow faster checkouts and in the future, self-check stations for patron use. Each item in the collection will be given an RFID tag linked to the library’s catalog to improve findability and security of the collection.
During the closure, security gates compatible with the new technology will be installed, and library staff will continue with RFID tagging.
Online services will continue to be available 24/7 at LibraryLA.org. Interlibrary loan, and LPL To Go, the library’s door side pickup service, will also be available during the closure. Patrons can come to the library at their convenience once they receive a hold notification by phone or email. Staff will pack the items upon arrival and meet patrons at the library’s Pine Street door. All requests for items must be done in advance via phone or online at https://minerva.maine.edu/.
