Lewiston Public Library offering free screening of Afghanistan film

LEWISTON — The Lewiston Public Library will hold a free public screening of the documentary film “No Greater Love” at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 16, in Callahan Hall at the Lewiston Public Library, 200 Lisbon St.
“No Greater Love” is the first documentary directed by an active duty soldier in combat. This film tells the story of how an Army chaplain and his men fight their way through a tour in one of the most dangerous places in Afghanistan and what it’s like for them as they struggle to find their way home again. The 2015 film, by Samuel Goldwyn Films and directed by Justin Roberts, has a running time of 98 minutes.
Chris Price, visiting assistant professor of politics at Bates College, will provide a brief introduction to the film at the beginning of the screening, focusing on the ethical complexities of conflict as they relate to American soldiers. Price earned a Ph.D. at Yale University, and has since been the Wisconsin International Relations Fellow at the University of Wisconsin-Madison and a post-doctoral researcher at the University of Chicago. At Bates, Price teaches courses on conflict, security and ethnicity. Price studies the dynamics and legacies of political violence, and is particularly interested in how violence affects ethnic and other group identities.
Because of the graphic nature of the film, viewer discretion is advised. Under current masking requirements at the library, refreshments will not be provided or permitted. For information on the screening, visit lplonline.org/events.
