Auburn seeks ‘perfect tree’ for downtown holiday season

AUBURN – The city is looking for “a beautiful local tree” to serve as the Christmas tree in Festival Plaza this year.
The ideal tree will be from Auburn, a spruce or fir at least 25 feet tall and relatively “accessible” to remove (no close power lines or other obstructions). The winning tree will be removed and transported at no cost to the property owner. Once in place, the tree will be decorated by the city’s Public Works Dept.
The tree will be lit at 6 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 4, at the city’s annual holiday parade, officially kicking off the holiday season in downtown Auburn.
Tree donors will be recognized through publicity and social media and will be invited to the lighting ceremony. The tree will remain at Festival Plaza throughout the holiday season.
Residents and property owners may submit their tree for consideration at auburnmaine.gov. Entries are due by Friday, Oct. 22.
